Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the luminious Book. 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 The command that We have been sending 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
