The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 and the roof uplifted 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
