The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
