The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 and the sea swarming, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 none can avert that. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
