The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 by the Visited House, 4 and the roof uplifted 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. 21 And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
