A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
