The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 and by the Book in lines 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the much-visited House, 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
