The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
