The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
