The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
