The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 then came down close 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
