The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
