The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
