The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
