Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
