Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 And gives a little and (then) withholds. 34 Has he the knowledge of the unseen so that he can see? 35 Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses 36 And of Ibrahim who faithfully fulfilled? 37 That no soul shall bear another's burden, 38 That man can have nothing but what he strives for; 39 That his endeavours will be judged, 40 and in the end he will be repaid for it in full; 41 And that to your Lord is the finality 42 and that it is He alone who causes [you] to laugh and to weep; 43 And that it is He who causes death and gives life 44 and He it is Who created the two kinds, the male and the female, 45 from a discharged living germ 46 And that only upon Him is the next revival? 47 and that it is He alone who frees from want and causes to possess; 48 And that He it is Who is the Lord of Sirius; 49 and that He destroyed Ad, the ancient, 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace [of them,] 51 And also the people of Nuh aforetime. Verily they were even greater wrong-doers and more contumacious. 52 And the overturned towns He hurled down 53 So that there covered them that which did cover. 54 About which, then, of thy Sustainer's powers canst thou [still] remain in doubt? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The Approaching Day has approached. 57 None but God can avert it. 58 Will you, then, wonder at this? 59 And laugh and not weep, 60 And you are lost in play! 61 [Nay,] but prostrate yourselves before God, and worship [Him alone]! ۩ 62
