Have you [Prophet] considered the man who turned away, 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Has he knowledge of the unseen, so that he sees? 35 Or has he not been told of what is in the scrolls of Moses, 36 and Abraham, he who paid his debt in full? 37 “That no bearer of a burden shall bear the burden of another, 38 and that man shall have nothing but what he has striven for, 39 And that his effort will soon be scrutinised? 40 And only then will he receive his recompense in full; 41 And that to your Lord is the goal- 42 And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep 43 And that He it is Who giveth death and giveth life; 44 And that He createth the two spouses, the male and the female, 45 From a drop of liquid, when it is added? 46 And that upon Him is another bringing forth. 47 that He it is Who bestowed wealth and riches, 48 And that He it is Who is the Lord of Sirius; 49 And that it is He (Allah) Who destroyed the former 'Ad (people), 50 And Thamud (people). He spared none of them. 51 And the folk of Noah aforetime, Lo! they were more unjust and more rebellious; 52 just as He thrust into perdition those cities that were overthrown 53 and then covered them from sight forever. 54 So which then of your Lord's favors do you dispute? 55 This is a warning just like those of former times. 56 The threatened Hour is nigh. 57 and none but Allah can avert it. 58 At this discourse then marvel ye? 59 and do you laugh, and do you not weep, 60 while you make merry? 61 [Nay,] but prostrate yourselves before God, and worship [Him alone]! ۩ 62
