The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Last Day came near, and the moon split apart. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 which floated on the water before Our very eyes. The flood was a recompense for the deeds of the disbelievers. 14 And certainly We left it as a sign, but is there anyone who 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 (The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings. 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
