The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 And indeed there has come to them news (in this Quran) wherein there is (enough warning) to check (them from evil), 4 Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad, 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 and caused the earth to gush with springs, so that the waters met for a predestined matter. 12 We carried him in a well built, watertight vessel made from planks (of wood) 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 And there belied the A'ad; so how dreadful have been My torment and warning! 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
