Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 in which you are now living 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
