He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
