The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 And indeed the news which had a lot of deterrence, came to them. 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 Therefore turn away from them; on the day when the announcer will call towards a severe unknown matter – 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them Noah's people also gave the lie (to his Message). They rejected Our servant as a liar, saying: “He is a madman”; and he was rebuffed. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 'Ad also gave the lie (to Hud). So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Smashing down men as if they were uprooted trunks of date palms. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
