The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 And indeed the news which had a lot of deterrence, came to them. 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 And there belied the A'ad; so how dreadful have been My torment and warning! 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 and snatched people up as though they were stumps of uprooted palmtrees. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
