The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Compassionate. 1 has imparted this Qur'an [unto man]. 2 has created man, 3 He taught him eloquent speech. 4 The sun and moon rotate in a predestined orbit. 5 and the stars and the trees all prostrate themselves, 6 And the heaven! He hath elevated it, and He hath set the balance. 7 so that you [too, O men,] might never transgress the measure [of what is right]: 8 Always measure with justice and do not give short measure. 9 He set down the earth for the creation. 10 Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates] 11 And grain chaffed and other food. 12 So O men and jinns! Which favour of your Lord will you deny? 13 He created man of clay like, unto pottery. 14 And the jinn did He create of smokeless fire. 15 Which of the wonders of your Lord's power will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 16 Lord of the Two Easts, Lord of the Two Wests, 17 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 18 He has made the two oceans meet each other, 19 Between them is a barrier [so] neither of them transgresses. 20 Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie? 21 Out of these two [bodies of water] come forth pearls, both great and small. 22 Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? 23 And His are the lofty ships that sail like [floating] mountains through the seas. 24 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? 25
