The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of delight; 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
