The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Abasing exalting. 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 So made them as maidens. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right hand; 38
