The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And shade extended 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
