The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and serried acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
