The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and flowing water 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
