The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
