The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and shade extended, 30 and flowing water 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
