The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and spreading shade 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
