The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And shade extended 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruits, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
