The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and a few from later times. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
