The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
