The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and waters gushing, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for the people of the right hand 38
