The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right hand; 38
