The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and serried acacias, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruits abounding 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
