a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
