A numerous company from among the first, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
