Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
