A large group from the earlier generations. 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
