A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
