The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
