The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 but, We see it as near! 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 But not so the worshippers 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
