The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 but We see it near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 except those who are steadfast 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
