The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons present by his side. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
