He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
