In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 But [whether by night or by day,] remember thy Sustainer's name, and devote thyself unto Him with utter devotion. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
