Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
